Pet overpopulation

Too Many Cats and Dogs!

Do you know what spay and neuter means? These are simple operations that keep pets from having babies. Female cats and dogs are spayed and male cats and dogs are neutered.

Why is it important to spay and neuter cats and dogs? We have a problem called pet overpopulation. That means there are too many animals without homes. Sadly, many of these unwanted pets are euthanized (put to sleep) in animal shelters. Is this fair? No! That’s why responsible pet owners must spay and neuter their cats and dogs!

Believe it or not, spayed and neutered cats and dogs live longer, healthier lives and are less likely to get a disease called cancer. They are also calmer and better behaved. That’s a plus for pets and their owners!

"Free kittens or puppies to a good home"

Have you ever seen a sign or advertisement that says "free kittens to a good home" or "free puppies to a good home"? Is there really such a thing as a free pet? No! The pet may be free when you get him or her, but it costs money to take care of a pet during his or her life-time. Don't be fooled!

What can YOU do to help control the pet overpopulation problem?

DON’T LITTER! Have your pet spayed or neutered. Encourage friends, family and neighbours to do the same.
