All About Mice!
Life-span:
- A mouse usually lives for one year in the wild and two to three years in captivity.
Appearance:
- A mouse is usually grayish brown with short hair and has a long, scaly tail.
- A mouse weighs 12-30 grams. Its body is about 65-95 mm long, and the tail is an extra 60-105mm long.
- It has cute, round ears.
Behaviour:
- A mouse is usually nocturnal. That means it sleeps during the day and is active at night.
- A mouse is very curious and smart.
- A mouse is good at climbing, jumping and swimming.
- A mouse lives in a variety of hidden places near humans since there is a steady supply of food.
- They nest in soft material like shredded paper, and will often live in walls, attics and garages.
Diet:
- A mouse will eat anything from grains and seeds to insulation material. It will even eat its own droppings (poop).
Reproduction:
- A female mouse can have 40 babies per year!
Other:
- Mice can squeeze through a hole the size of a dime.
- Mice produce lots of droppings which can spread diseases to people and pets.
- Mice can cause damage to property, including house fires from chewing electrical wires.
